It was a question of Trump's populism against neoliberal excesses. And putting in conservative justices was a welcome restoration of sanity to an activist judiciary, because the judiciary refusing to dictate laws isn't a glitch, its a feature. Having Hillary meant the economy tanking, jobs shipping overseas, domestic industry gutted, warmongering to no end, the endless ratcheting up of authoritarian infringements on free speech and fair elections. Sure, we'd have abortion to continue to be legal at the federal level- by continuing to suppress people from being to weigh in on it democratically. We wouldn't have had the Trump economic boom or the end of the wars in the middle east or a realignment to oppose China.

At the end of the day, democracy only works when everyone agrees to a shared free and fair system. It doesn't work if one side throws a hissy fit and tries to overturn the results, and it doesn't work if those in power abuse their position to suppress their opposition. Those are threats that exist on both the left and the right, but I'm 1000x more concerned about Merrick Garland sending storm troopers into homes of journalists in the middle of the night than a bunch of Trump chuds lining up to take selfies in the capitol. Democracy didn't "almost end in 2020", its been teetering on the edge of almost ending since 2016, as neoliberals continue to try to undermine democracy and plunge us into an authoritarian dystopia. And there was no greater cheerleader of the movement to destroy American democracy than Hillary Clinton.
