As if it's only the Germans - the Italians, Austrians, French and Hungarians have cuddled with Russia just as much over the past decade plus.
Fyi: Germany has been trying to find alternatives to Russian gas since March. Gazprom flexing its muscles like that is a reaction to Germany being able to fill its gas storages for the coming winter at a much higher rate than anticipated, particularly in recent weeks, in spite of NS1 already being throttled to just 40%, and later even 20%.
Here's a chart of the filling level of Germany's gas storages, compared with previous years and also with the goals set out by the government:
https://i.imgur.com/2PrtDyU.jpgAs you can see, we've almost reached the 85% goal which was slated for October at the beginning of September, one month ahead of schedule. Russia cutting off the tiny remaining gas shipments is a last-ditch effort to cause the markets or the populace to panic.
This and planned "Preisdeckel" by von der Laien (pun intended).
Update on Saparodjia inspection:
1. Russians showed them everything they wanted without exception.
2. Chief inspector Grossi said damage already done was unacceptable for a nuclear plant.
3. Safe operation is still possible due to sufficient electricity being available.
4. They plan to permanently station two of their people to which Russia agreed.
5. There is reasonable cooperation between Russian army and the Ukrainians working on the plant.
Today, Ukraine blamed Russia for clearing the plant of heavy weapons before inspectors had arrived.
Wasn't it what they wanted or asked for? What is their problem?
Then a strike near the plant was confirmed to be of Ukrainian origin today..
