You can have the truth come from anonymous sources, you can have falsehoods come from anonymous sources. Its not inherently better or worse at finding the truth: There will be people who wouldn't be willing to go on the record with their statements that you couldn't get otherwise, and there are less reliable sources you'll get doing it. What anonymous sources do compromise, is responsibility. Without anyone to hold accountable for the lies, misrepresentations or misinterpretations, it falls entirely on the journalists to take responsibility. And in a world of good actors, journalists wouldn't be afraid to use anonymous sources when its necessary, but would take strict scrutiny and verify with both skepticism and due diligence. Which of course fucking nobody does in a 24/7 news cycle of clickbait journalism driven by economic necessity.

Who was the last major active site with a perfect track record of verification and never rushed to publish and always put everything under a microscope? It was Wikileaks
and see how they've been crucified for the motive of their sources and their political bias and unfounded allegations of conspiracy.
meanwhile even previously reputable and nonpartisan boring news sites can't help but stumble into fake news these days.

I just don't think that's true. There's quality journalism coming out everyday, the vast majority of it is accurate. It's sort of silly to think journalists are going to sit on a story for days just to get another source or two. That's why Americans should be intelligent consumers of news.... and to be skeptical if only one news outlet is backing up a story.

Oh, speaking of inaccurate news, the White House has said that the release of the US hostages in North Korea is not confirmed, as was reported by multiple outlets.

Weird... I haven't seen the Trump cult outraged over that one.

At hearing at the federal courthouse in Alexandria, Virginia, U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson said Mueller should not have “unfettered power” in his Russia probe and that the charges against Manafort did not arise from the investigation into Moscow’s alleged meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.

It seems that at least one judge, has balls.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (Reuters) - A federal judge on Friday sharply criticized Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s criminal case in Virginia against President Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, and openly questioned whether Mueller exceeded his prosecutorial powers by bringing it.

“I don’t see what relationship this indictment has with anything the special counsel is authorized to investigate,” U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III in the Eastern District of Virginia said.

At a tense hearing at the federal courthouse in Alexandria, Virginia, the judge said Mueller should not have “unfettered power” in his Russia probe and that the charges against Manafort did not arise from the investigation into Moscow’s alleged meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.

“It’s unlikely you’re going to persuade me the special counsel has unfettered power to do whatever he wants,” said Ellis, who was appointed to the bench by Republican President Ronald Reagan.

Manafort is facing charges in both Virginia and Washington. The Virginia case charges him with offenses including tax and bank fraud.

The other case in Washington accuses him of conspiring to launder money and failing to register as a foreign agent when he lobbied for the pro-Russia Ukrainian government.

None of the charges relate, however, to Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign or possible collusion with Russia. Trump has denied any collusion.

Manafort’s attorney Kevin Downing has argued that the charges must dismissed because the FBI investigation dates back to 2014, and therefore did not arise from Mueller’s probe.
