Not completely, Dugin is more extreme than Putin. But the distinction here is that Dugin is someone who isn't a politician, isn't a pundit, holds no power or media presence. People talk about getting a time machine to assassinate Hitler in 1939, but nobody talks about getting a time machine to assassinate Karl Marx or Friedrich Nietzsche after they published their works. Nobody can call Dugin a legitimate target for any reason but the views he holds and espouses, and the sort of people who murder folks for what they think are the kind of fascists that make Dugin look reasonable.

It's kind of easy to imagine people in this world who would assassinate Dugin for his positions. Whether they be inside Russia, or in Ukraine, or elsewhere. You seem to be pretending that everywhere outside the US has the same respect for the 1st amendment that the US does.

I think the vast majority of media outlets and the white house's press secretary / team figured that this wasn't something that should be championed as an accomplishment, unlike say killing the head of ISIS / Al Qaeda. So its not like there's a rush to embrace it, they can figure the same thing, its an attempted assassination of a civilian scholar and the killing of his daughter as collateral damage. And if its the Ukrainians, its a black mark against them
