Visa and Mastercard are still working in Russia. You just can't use it outside. MIR is shit. It doesn't work in Turkey and Saudi Arabia despite it was announced, not to mention the rest of the world.

I'm looking at the present, not hindsight. Once Russia decided to invade, Ukraine really was left with no choice but to fight claw, tooth, and nail.

Putin ordered army to stop like 3 days into invasion against his military higher ups wishes because zelensky asked for negotiations.

Then later on they had negotiations in turkey which were mostly positive and russia said they are close to a settlement. Then boris shows up in kiev and zelensky is "fight to last ukranian".

This didn't happen 20 years ago, it is still kinda fresh

Amnesty International has released a detailed reporting condemning the Ukrainian military for endangering civilians by putting military bases inside hospitals, schools and other civilian areas, essentially using civilian populations as human shields.

Quote
“We have documented a pattern of Ukrainian forces putting civilians at risk and violating the laws of war
....
Between April and July, Amnesty International researchers spent several weeks investigating Russian strikes in the Kharkiv, Donbas and Mykolaiv regions. The organization inspected strike sites; interviewed survivors, witnesses and relatives of victims of attacks; and carried out remote-sensing and weapons analysis.

Throughout these investigations, researchers found evidence of Ukrainian forces launching strikes from within populated residential areas as well as basing themselves in civilian buildings in 19 towns and villages in the regions. The organization’s Crisis Evidence Lab has analyzed satellite imagery to further corroborate some of these incidents.

Most residential areas where soldiers located themselves were kilometres away from front lines. Viable alternatives were available that would not endanger civilians – such as military bases or densely wooded areas nearby, or other structures further away from residential areas. In the cases it documented, Amnesty International is not aware that the Ukrainian military who located themselves in civilian structures in residential areas asked or assisted civilians to evacuate nearby buildings – a failure to take all feasible precautions to protect civilians.

The Guardian corroborated it;

Guardian reporters have seen at least seven instances in three regions of Ukraine where schools and nurseries in residential areas were used as bases by the Ukrainian army. Five of the schools and nurseries the Guardian visited had been bombed. In each instance, several surrounding buildings were damaged in the attack.

In one instance, in Donetsk region, at least three people died when the wave of the blast that destroyed a base hit a neighbouring residential building.

In one school that was being used as a base by Ukrainian forces in central Ukraine, the commander said schools and kindergartens across Ukraine were being bombed because they were being used as bases. The commander said that schools provided the necessary facilities: showers, multiple toilets, large kitchens, dining areas, basements and rooms. He said the invasion had meant the army had to accommodate masses of new recruits quickly.

Irish news:

The presidents wife wrote an open letter to the media with a plea for peace. the Irish Government basically condemned her letter. So yea, if you cant plea for peace in ireland (we are quite far geographically) then there is little or no appetite from those closer to the conflict. the mind boggles.

The Irish president's wife, Sabina Higgins, has defended a letter she wrote to a newspaper about the war in Ukraine after criticism of her views. She wrote to The Irish Times last week to protest that a previous editorial had not encouraged any ceasefire talks. But her personal letter, which briefly appeared on the president's official website, was criticised for failing to register that Russia was the aggressor. She has now pointed out that she has condemned the invasion from the start. In a statement issued on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs Higgins explained that her letter to the Irish Times had made "a plea for peace" in Ukraine and she questioned why anyone would find that unacceptable.

...In her latest statement, the president's wife said: "I have from its outset strongly condemned the illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine and I cannot be but dismayed that people would find anything unacceptable in a plea for peace and negotiations when the future of humanity is threatened by war, global warming and famine."

The west is too busy playing the blame game card to even consider a ceasefire. the scary thing is that this is the irish government position. i would have thought them not to be radicals, i dont see them as radicals but rather stuck on a runaway train.

the probelm with a ceasefire is that Russia already won. and it would be Ukraine that will break it to try and get some of the territories back.
