I think it needs to be asked: Why did America recover so much more slowly from Covid this year under Biden, then last year under Trump?
In 2020->2021 there were three distinct crests, followed by sharp declines back to baseline death rate. That was without a widespread vaccine. Now with a vaccine, 2021->2022 showed an elevated death rate that never dropped back down until the end of spring. There were no spikes and recoveries. It didn't burn itself out in weeks. There was only a consistent widespread die-off until the season ended. This years graph was more dead overall, because those rates kept higher so long.



Getting hit by new waves last year brought it up over and over again, but each time we got hit, we got it under control in weeks. This time it stayed raging nonstop all winter.

The results don't lie. More people dead from this wave, despite widespread vaccinations. No returns to baselines until the season ended. Even with the benefit of all the research into mitigation efforts, even with mask mandates and lockdowns, and even with a 77% vaccination rate (66% 2+, 30% 3+ doses). And on top of that, the primary variant was one thought to be milder in effect and passed through south africa with very little impact. So after this year, the question should be what went wrong

this variant caused more deaths overall globally, not just in the US. the CFR was way lower jut the infection rate, and spread was massively higher. The VAX was less effective for stopping the spread.
