If you do nothing, Russia grows in strength, while your europeans friends will faint, so it will in fact decrease your security and likelihood of nuclear war will actually grow.
You cannot just always run away from the bad guys, because you will run out of places to hide.
Russia isn't growing stronger through this war, they're rapidly exhausting their military capacities, both in terms of equipment and troops. Furthermore, logistics have always been the Russian/Soviet achilles heel, which was confirmed yet again in this current war. Simply put, Russia wouldn't even have the military strength to invade Poland in a straight 1on1, even if no additional American troops were deployed to their defense.
If Russia had the power to just steamroll Ukraine, they would have done so months ago. Their advances at a glacial pace, their terror campaign against civilians and foreign countries (blocking grain exports, weaponizing natural gas exports, etc.) are all signs of Russian weakness, not strength.
So no, the way I see it, Russia is not this gigantic menace that threatens to waltz all over Europe in a few years if we don't stop them now. In particular, considering its historical and symbolic significance for Russia, it would be foolish to think that they would ever give up Crimea. Cherson, Mariupol, the Donbass - maybe the Russians could be expelled from these places. But I'm fairly certain that Crimea would be a red line for Russia, they would imho go to nuclear war to defend it.
