American society is left on cultural issues. Sure, there are regressives who want to ban gay marriage, segregate schools, and codify misogyny via policy, but they are a minority. Close to 70% support gay marriage, for example. 60% agree abortion should be legal and close to 80% of non-religious affiliated people say it should be legal.

So they're just representing society in general because it makes marketing sense.

Among other things, Beto supports dismantling the VA, supports the thin blue line and making attacks on police officers (usually trumped up bullshit charges) a federal crime, he voted for the massive expansion of the military contractor slush fund budget, opposes any attempt to impeach Trump, wants to eliminate the Medicare oversight board that keeps costs contained for seniors, supports accelerated death penalties and dramatically changing the appeals process so more people can be executed without full appeal... the list is just too long and too depressing.

The Democratic Party is a center-right party, so yes. His votes are consistently with the center-right or the far-right. He has zero votes on record where he opposed or supported legislation from the left of the party positions. Always with them or to the right of them.
