Russia retreating from Snake Island shows that the situation in this war is still pretty fluid. Both militaries are significantly attritioned so progress on either side will be protracted

Losing Black Sea Fleet flagship and then losing Snake Island means defeat in this theatre of war.

yea im staying largely silent noting (in the round) there appears to be little movement. if this view is wrong, i invite people to outline what fundamentals have changed, or are about to change.

They shouldn't have tried to establish positions on the island in the first place. Not sure why they bothered. All they need to do is blow up any Ukrainians trying to get to the island and call it good.

Although, Ukraine did lose like 15 drones and 3 helicopters full of troopers trying to take the island, so that's good.

They should have tried and they did it on the first day of war, but utterly failed to take Odessa and Mykolaiv, lost flagship, got grounded and then retreated. Zaluzhny totally owned them, despite of clown Zelensky tried to take the Island by drones and paratroopers.

In terms of taking Odesa, yes, but they can still blockade Ukraine's shipments and wreck their economy in the process. That's good for Russia in a protracted war



They bothered because controlling Snake Island makes it easier to attack Odesa and destroy ships trying to evade the Russian blockade by skirting close to the Romanian border
