He isn't taking the experiment results and then extrapolating it to human society. He's pointing out that maybe we could learn something from the rats and see what unlimited resources..etc could potentially do to human societies. Maybe there is some kind of parallel.

I don't see quibbling about semantics as being useful. The point is that we could learn something from the experiment and that is a good thing.
