I couldn't really see any knife in the video, perhaps it was just quite blurry. I'd have to see exactly what he was carrying in order to develop an opinion on this one.

But regardless: Just because something was successful in one case doesn't mean that it is good policy. If police were told to disarm knife-wielders, how often would they be successful at preventing the knife from causing any injury to police or bystanders? Even if their success rate was 90%, that's too low. It would mean that cops get injured by the knife wielder 10% of the time, which the union and insurance companies would have a field day with given how much more dangerous it would make the job. The union and insurance companies don't represent the suspects - only the cops.
