Conscientious objectors during the draft didn't choose to join the Army then decide they didn't want to fight when war happened.

Yes she has the right to object. No she doesn't have the right to continue being paid for a job she isn't doing.

What the pope said is nothing new. Everyone already agrees she has the right to object.

...not what the Pope is talking about . He believes their should be protections from legal consequences .

I thought about it and I'm fine with how the laws currently are. Reasonable accomodation for private workers, prisoners, and government hired workers but not for elected officials.

And he can think what he wants. Unfortunately for her, the laws don't favor that opinion.

At what point to we decide which of these conscientious objections are justifiable and which are not?

...I'm just relating what the Pope said on a recent hot topic , I have no idea how encompassing he thinks it should actually be . I thought it would make a good topic since it's not a common discussion point .

The Pope does get to weigh the situation coming from a religious frame of context without having to give much regard to legal backlash and consequences. By allowing he free rein with her objection a figurative Pandora's box could be opened.

...while I wish he has talked about this in front of Congress I guess it's better late than never .

On his flight back to Rome the Pope was asked about the situation with Kim Davis and he said that government officials have a human right to conscientious objection if it violates a religious belief .

"Conscientious objection must enter into every juridical structure because it is a right," Francis said.

This sets up an interesting conflict between those who claim gay marriage is a right and those who claim conscientious objection is a human right .

So what say you PaRD , is conscientious objection a fundamental human right ?

heh funny he also defended us taking in syrian refugees

There are. You can't be jailed for objecting. Freedom of speech and all that. You can be jailed for being in contempt of court however and you should be jailed if you're an elected official who refuses to do their job.

Nobody is advocating legal consequences for objecting.
