She's an elected official who can only be removed by a public vote which is why things played out the way they did. If she had resigned none of this would have made news.

...except that in this case she can only be removed by impeachment as an elected official hence the dilemma .

interesting situation!

is there a historical precedent in the situation of a rogue judge? i mean as a temporary measure since the impeachment process would no doubt take time

As far as current law goes it explicitly says you don't have to make accommodations for elected officials

Why do religious folk pretend to have the authority to define marriage. They can do so by all means within the confines of their organization, no one is saying you can not be a bigot. Just please leave the rest of us out of it. Half of these stupid, waste of time social issues are a result of some religious nutjob sticking his nose into someone else's business.

We all know you're on the losing side of history anyway so just give it up and accept your new faggy future.

Grasping for straws, they have been now for a while. Almost any of their legislation is nuisance legislation they know it doesn't stand a chance, they refuse to work together. They just yell loud and keep losing and their base gets smaller and smaller.

well then in this situation it seems the only reasonable answer is to go about the impeachment process. the laws of the country are there, it's not up to each individual judge to run the country as he/she sees fit. since she was not doing immediate significant damage then there shouldn't be an issue.

i feel like there should be another reasonable alternative though other than jail.

The reasonable alternative is that she resigns as she is unable to fulfill her duties.

I think the real reason she went to jail though is because she was obstructing other officials from doing their jobs, so it wasn't just confined to her. She was released and allowed to continue working on the condition she stop obstructing other clerks issueing marriage licenses.

Conscientious objectors during the draft didn't choose to join the Army then decide they didn't want to fight when war happened.

Yes she has the right to object. No she doesn't have the right to continue being paid for a job she isn't doing.

What the pope said is nothing new. Everyone already agrees she has the right to object.
