again it seems to me that the teacher said pick a book, the parents thought that because the students were allowed to pick any book they want they called it "free reading" whether it was free reading, or part of the cirriculm does not matter, what matters is that the students were allowed to read what they wanted, and that the teacher specifically said religious books are not allowed in "my classroom".

banning a book due to gods influence in its writing is no different than banning a book because a black person wrote it.

According to the links they can pick any book they want for free reading. This wasn't free reading so there's no reason to think they can pick whatever book they want.

I noticed your child has a book .... An adult erotica book ... In the classroom , he's not permitted to read those books in my classroom

much better.

or assuming a presentation on the book at the end of the circilum:

"at the end of the free reading project your child will be asked to make a presentation to the class, due to the nature of the book your child picked this may come across as evangelizing fellow students which is in clear violation of the first amendment in regard to the establishment of a religion. I ask you to please have you child choose a different book."

there is no free reading, only "free reading" which is what the parents thought was happening because the students were allowed to pick the books they wanted.

I'll post again from the link you provided.

The family of 12-year-old Giovanni Rubeo says their child wasn’t allowed to read his Bible during “free reading” class periods that gave students the option of reading any book they wished. The Broward school district disputes this version of events, and says the boy wasn’t allowed to read the Bible because there was an “accelerated reading” program taking place.

Had there been a “free reading” session going on, Broward officials say the Bible would have been permitted. Rubeo is a student at Park Lakes Elementary in Lauderdale Lakes.

In his comments on Tuesday, Runcie said administrators at Park Lakes — and schools across the district — are being reminded that the Bible is permitted during free reading sessions. Students are also allowed to read their Bibles before and after school starts, and during lunch.

The parents assumed all reading was "free reading". That's not the case so they're wrong. The teacher handled it poorly that's all.

the parents assumed the accelerated reading was free reading because it gave the students the option of reading any book they wished. apparently it was any book they wished, except religious ones. the teacher dosnt allow that kind of trash in her class room, likely along with anything from female and black authors.

I cant belive schools let such intolerant bigots into their facilities, kinda disgusting knowing that what with tenure the school would likely face a larger lawsuit from her for letting her go than they face from the child and parents for the teachers religious discrimination.

You're to emotional about this that you aren't seeing reason. Do you have a source showing that they can choose any book they want for accelerated reading sessions except religious book? For all you know there's a small list of books to choose from so why are you so set on this?

do you have a source showing the teacher didn't say they could pick any book? everything points to this, even the teachers own comments, for had their been a list of books, I think it absurd for the teacher to mention religion as the issue while not saying a thing about a pre defined list.

You're the one who keeps saying they were aloud to choose any book for accelerated reading so i'm wondering where you got that idea from.

clearly both of us are making stupid assumpitons concerning there being a list or not being a list, its unfortunate I had to show you how stupid you were rather than you seeing it in your self.
