imagine if the student was reading a book by Freddy Mercury, lead singer of Queen, or Elton John.

“I noticed that he has a book — a book written by a homosexual — in the classroom. He’s not permitted to read those books in my classroom.”

imagine if it was mya angelou

“I noticed that he has a book — a book written by a black person — in the classroom. He’s not permitted to read those books in my classroom.”

if either of the above 2 quotes sound alittle more offensive and descrimintory than

“I noticed that he has a book — a religious book — in the classroom. He’s not permitted to read those books in my classroom.”

you've got a serious problem with your bias against religion.

Im not stading up for Christianity, im standing against an intolerant bigot trying to back track and save her skin.

Maybe the teacher wanted to avoid books that could lead to debate/dramas in a classroom, which could disturb the classroom. As a religious person/parent, I wouldn't' make a mountain out of that.

I guess we'll wait on the Higgs boson to prove that an intelligent designer doesn't exist... We will need all the time on that too

I still can't tell if you're a troll or not.

See now you've flipped for arguing moral objections based upon someone's belief ... To arguing what is rationally reasonable for a school system or not ...

Luckily there is a battle I wouldn't even have to fight ... You'll find very little non Christian support for allowing a bible to be used as teaching material during a secular public class rooms teaching time .

All of mankind came from 1 man and 1 woman who had 2 sons ... Take all the time needed on that one .

The bible is full of murder , incest ...indecent acts ... Persecuting minorities and other things that wouldn't be tolerated in other non religious books in a classroom setting ... They cannot be tolerated in a book in a classroom setting simply because of someone's personal faith .

As stated he can read it in all his free time he wishes . If he doesn't want to be part of a secular learning environment ... There are Christian schools.

According to the bible adam live to be 900 some years old or something like that. He had lots of kids.

“I noticed that he has a book — a book written by a Mexican — in the classroom. He’s not permitted to read those books in my classroom.”

....all of these statements are equally offensive.

well some people have a lot more hate for religion than others, just like some people hate women more than others, and some people hate African americans more than others, and some people hate palastinians more than others, and some people hate homosexual more than others.

of course for those bigots, some of the above statements arnt going to be offensive as some of the other ones.

Well she didn't single out the bible at least. It's a religious book and it wasn't part of the curriculum so the student shouldn't have been reading it. The teacher handled it poorly that's all.

again it seems to me that the teacher said pick a book, the parents thought that because the students were allowed to pick any book they want they called it "free reading" whether it was free reading, or part of the cirriculm does not matter, what matters is that the students were allowed to read what they wanted, and that the teacher specifically said religious books are not allowed in "my classroom".

banning a book due to gods influence in its writing is no different than banning a book because a black person wrote it.
