that always has to be done on old chevy trucks. im looking at suspenion atm. cuz i know nothing about suspension. i want it to ride like that one in the video. but i dunno how to get that height etc. or what suspension to get. i pretty much want to have the frame spotless with motor/tranny/rearend/wheels/tires/suspension/possiby disc brake conversion dunno about that one yet. but ya. i figure buy parts then go nuts.
Early Classic Enterprises is your best fucking friend. I'm not even kidding. From complete OEM wiring harnesses to disc brake conversions and drop spindles they have it all. Most of the stuff Stacy David used on Project Copperhead (Trucks! on SpikeTv) came from them. He made them famous pretty much. You can buy entire front clips, bed sides, bed floors, tailgates, complete rear suspension, everything from them. All from 1 place and they know these trucks inside and out. Browsing their site they even sell a GEN III engine mount conversion kit for a little over $200.
I had a 2.5"/4" drop on mine and it was perfect. It had rally wheels though. If I was going with a modern 18-20" rim I might even go lower than that.
That's 2.5" drop spindles in the front and a 4" drop spring in the rear. Having the spindle in the front instead of a lowering spring does wonders for the ride and handling. It keeps the stock suspension geometry intact.
It's the one in the middle
http://www.earlyclassic.com/Tech.aspx?category=Stance+PhotosEven the 4"/6" drop isn't too low if you are going with an 18" or bigger rim. These trucks really soak up the drop. 6" sounds like a lot but it looks damn good if you do it right.
