Id go with a 4l80e if you plan on modding the ls1 at all ;p

That would be one hell of project though I love the old c10's. My dad had a 66 I believe all white with the wood bed, etc. so clean

i might try to get 450-500 hp out of it so i think the 4l60e is perfect. what kind of gearing do the vettes and camaro/tas run in their rearend? im thinkin about a 3.73 but dunno.

nice a friend in high school had a 69 c10 that he took the body off and completely redone in auto body. those trucks are nice looking when they are in good shape. shouldnt have to say this but make sure you take pics when you get one and start working on it ;) . we want to see the rust if any also dont sugarcoat it.

:D

The upside to a 4L80E is that you wouldn't need a built one for that power level. With bolt ons/cam and the extra weight of a truck a stock 4L60E will break eventually. A Performabuilt level 2 or anything stronger would probably be just about bulletproof.

Automatic F-bodies come with 2.73 gears or 3.23 gears. 6 speed cars all have 3.42 gears. Most Auto guys go for 3.73's or 3.90's. Lots have 4.10's but I wouldn't go that high if the idea was a nice street cruiser. Mustang guys will tell you completely different but that's because their cars don't make ANY torque until 5,000rpm. Most of them seem to think that 4.56's aren't too much for the street.

Which grille do you like better? The one in that video is a 67 and it's the most popular. I like it the best myself. The later style honeycomb grille does look good with a billet replacement if the color of the truck and the stance are right. I had a 67 in my 71.

i like the grill in video. and hmmm. so 3.73s with a 4l80e isnt gonna be a prob? how much is 4l80e gonna cost compared to a 60e. and if 3.73 is good. im gonna do an 8.8 swap.

No it will be quite good actually. I'd say the 4l80 is more expensive than the 4l60 but cheaper than a built 4l60. They hold something like 700bhp completely stock. They have an extra set of planetary gears (60vs80 in the designation). I'd stick with the 12 bolt personally. With a good set of gears and a good posi it will take all you can throw at it. F-bodies have given the 12 bolt a bad name when put behind an LS1. They break them because of the torque arm suspension setup. The 12 bolt housing was not designed to be a stressed member and the torque arm literally turns into a spring. When put in something with leaf springs like a truck or a 4 link they will hold a LOT of power. Just throw in some C clip eliminators, some good gears, and a good posi unit. There's no need to put some ford junk in there ;) .
