ya but if it's a project you might as well do it right man I wouldn't get a rebuilt tranny in my project truck especially when you are going to end up paying more just to get the computer + electronics hooked up

i kind of doubt you will get a 4l80 or 4l60 for anywhere near 100 dollars even from a junkyard. idk honestly ive never priced one but that just seems way too cheap for one.

I'm not sure but I think it's Speartech that makes the TCM (Transmission Control Module) to make 4L80's work with LS1 PCM's. There are several places throughout the country that will ship pullout trannies with all the wiring and everything for a very reasonable rate. 4L80E's came in the 3/4 ton pickups that did not recieve the Allison 5 speed. They are very tough transmissions and it's what all the "Big Boy" street cars run on LS1tech if they want to keep overdrive. Most of the street turbo guys go 4L80E. I've seen several hold 750rwhp completely stock with a converter. If you do rebuild it you could probably do it yourself. This guy did.

I'm not an automatic guy and it would be a pretty big task. If you find one in a wrecked truck with less than 75k miles on it I'd pull the pan to clean it up and maybe install a shift kit.

Think of a 4L80E as a TH-400 with an overdrive gear that is electronically controlled and can use a lockup torque converter.

Probably $500-1000 depending on mileage and whats included with it. 4L60E's go for about half that but they are junk in stock form. T-56's go for
