That would be fun. It would be a lot more work but it would be fun

If you used an LS1 T56 you wouldn't have to crack it open like he did. I guess it doesn't sound too bad. If you went T-56 I'd go for 4.10's all day. Throw a 28" tire on it at the track and let it eat.

I've never messed with it either. It's very easy to fuck something up. You really don't even need a shift kit for a 4L80 unless you are looking to take it to the track a lot.

I don't know what all that kit entails. It might be possible to modify a corvette shifter setup to work but once again it would require a lot of work.

ya i think im gonna stick to an automatic setup. seems simpler and less hassle/cash to dish out. u know a reputable place to buy a new 4l80e? so i can compare prices between used rebuilt and new?

New ones are pretty expensive. I don't know of anywhere that sells stock ones. Several shops sell different levels of built ones ranging from $2200-$5000.

junkyard hopping i go then! since u have experience with these trucks i may be asking a lot of questions. i talked to an older buddy of mine who was in the military in the 70s lol. he said that these trucks came with coilover in the back in a very few amount of them. to watch for that and i told him im trying to get a leaf suspension. but man i cant wait to start doing this shit.

I believe they went to leaf in mid 1970. My 71 had a narrower 67 coil spring rear.
