Actually it seems like there are multiple choices for wireless cards. You can find out by going to device manager (right click on my computer, then properties. Go to the hardware tab and choose device manager) and expanding the wireless devices.

You either have a Atheros HB93-HB95, a RaLink, or an intel 5100/5300/5150/5350/CondorPeak/SP1x2HMW/SP1x2HABG. Additionally which windows 7 x64 do you have( home basic, home premium, or ultimate)?

You will have to select show all models to see yours.

Here is your LAN driver (for all windows 7 64 bit)

That is for your card.

I have this feeling that the problems will continue, but updating the drivers is a good thing.

Alright let me restate what I have understood so far. Please add in anything that I haven't stated, or correct me if I am wrong.

Your internet speed is fine, and your ping is good, but slightly jittery. Even on the high end its still ok.
You have a fairly modern computer, so speed shouldn't be an issue.
The problem is found both online and offline play. (You did conflict on SP mode.)
A chkdsk was run, so apart from a failing hard drive, we can assume the file system is fine.
You tried closing extra programs but the problem persisted.
It is not a network driver as you updated both.

I'm thinking it is a stubborn virus/rootkit, or you need to run D2 in compatibility mode.

Does the problem occur in any other games?

What are your idle and loaded cpu temps?

I like speedfan (for non dell computers). Other people here have different preferences.

For idle temps just have it sit on your desktop for a bit. Make sure any antivirus updating is done.

For load temps, have it log the temps for a bit, and play D2 until you get the freeze. Then look at your temp log for the highest temp.
