I'm going to rank and give a quick analysis of some of the top talents per position in this year's draft. I am going to make a new thread for each position and will keep old threads listed in each new thread.
Keep in mind, this is purely my opinions. I am not saying this will be the order, this will be how players turn out or anything along those lines, it's just simply my own personal thoughts.
If you'd like a specific position to be done next, feel free to post, I don't mind jumping around. If not, I'll go in order (QB, WR, RB, TE, OT, etc...)
3-4 Defensive Ends:For anyone who may not know, 3-4 DEs are essentially DTs in most cases. Not always, just sometimes. So, if some of these descriptions seem familiar, check my DT/NT descriptions.
So, if you see a lot of these guys listed as DTs, that’d be the reason why.
1) Star Lotuelei, DT, Utah – Star is extremely versatile, able to play DT in a 4-3 and NT or DE in a 3-4. Star can stop the run, has a great motor, speed, strength and size. He will be a defensive force in this league for years to come. Star will do well no matter what system he is in or what position he is asked to play.
2) Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State – Hankins is a massive run stuffer and can disrupt the pass as well. He’s not the fastest of guys but he makes up for it with his great strength. Hankins will be best in a 4-3 system but can do well in a 3-4 as a DE.
3) Margus Hunt, DE, SMU – Hunt is one of my absolute favorite players in this year’s draft. He is an absolute freak standing at 6’8’’, 277lbs and to back that up, he’s a projected 4.79 40, that’s fucking insane for that size haha. He’s strong as an ox and has all the tools needed to be a dominate 3-4 DE/DT.
4) Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri – Richardson has the highest motor of any player in possibly all of college football this past year. He’s not overly strong or big but he has great speed and is a disruptive force behind the line. He’ll be best suited as a 3-tech in a 4-3 but he can be shaped into a 3-4 DE.
5) Datone Jones, DE, UCLA – Jones brings a nice combination of size and speed to the NFL. He’s a solid pass rusher and can do well as a 4-3 DE if it’s asked of him but he’ll be best suited in a 3-4.
6) Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida – Floyd is a high motor guy who has good speed for his size. He’s not the best pass rusher nor the best run stuffer but he’s good at both. He will be best suited to play the 3-tech in a 4-3 though.
7) Sylvester Williams, DT, North Carolina – Williams has a nice combination of size and speed and is great at getting to the passer. He struggles more than the other top talent in run defense and sometimes seems as if he’s running on empty/doesn’t have the drive others do. He will best fit in a 4-3 scheme at either spot but the change to a 3-4 may be ideal for him since he can have some help in the run game.
8) William Gholston, DE, Michigan State – Gholston is solid in defending the run but struggles in the pass rush. Being a 3-4 DE is ideal for him since he can rely on his OLBs to get to the QB. He needs to show that he can pressure the quarterback to impress anyone at the NFL level though.
9) Jesse Williams, DT Alabama – Williams is primarily a run stuffer who won’t bring much to the table when it comes to getting to the passer. He’ll best fit in as a 3-4 NT but he’s probably not an every down player in the NFL.
