I dunno. It’s just well rounded as a package. I haven’t enjoyed another isometric ARPG near as much yet. But there are still one or two I haven’t tried.

Honestly there's nothing that inherently makes newer games better. If graphics are your litmus test sure, or if having a multitude of end game systems then that's fine too. But Diablo 2's infinite replayability comes from a multitude of things and it honestly is still one of the strongest ARPGs out there. But again, "best" is subjective anyways, and there's no sure fire way to quantify an abstract concept like "best".

Before anyone says POE is the best ARPG, just remember how god awful it feels to run the campaign, whereas Diablo 2 is still a pleasant experience to do a normal-hell walk every ladder... 20 years later.

ARPG is ARPG there are core elements to it which makes it that genre, D2 is the best representative of ARPG if you look all the stats. D4 is not ARPG amd many new "arpg-s" are lacking core elements of arpg such as open trading for example and in that case they are out of the genre, they are some kinda of hybrids betven arpg and mmo which doesn't have name yet and they are using arpg name to sell their product and trick people thinking its the same game with the same name.

That is kind of troubling..
Funny thing is when d3 was released, instantly logged in with a group and I had like 2 fps. Had to actually run out and buy a graphics card that night to play lol

I was missing 1 euro to buy game since i misscalculated provision that bank takes and bank was closed i couldn't go to it, so all my friends was playing it at the start, i was raging almost like a angry german kid, i was hiting my wooden closet like crazy.. Will never forget that night.. 😄

Good to hear, its funny how they are turning step by step arpg to something else and they are not even talking about it, they are acting like nothing important is being changed. Like open trading is some kinda rock on the map which will be removed and not worth mention it, i doubt that they are don't know about it, they are just ignoring it hoping(or knowing) game will sell in big numbers with good marketing and good game name. And thats what mather the most to the boss.
