The GM Melee Mini-Event Series
___________________________
The GM Melee Discord server will now host a weekly melee mini-event with a different theme at 7:00 PM EST every Sunday or Monday evening, schedules permitting.How to Enter
* Sign up in this thread at least one hour before each event, which will normally take place on Sunday or Monday evenings at 7:00 PM EST. Show up to the Discord channel when the event begins (not required, but makes it easier and more fun). Either myself, Kiss, Minhaz, or another established member of the melee community will run each event from beginning to end (this is a community-run event, no single person is responsible for running every single one!). PM me for an invite to the Discord, if needed.
Rules
* Since each mini-event will have a different theme, the rules will naturally change from week to week. For example, our first mini-event will be a no holds barred BM melee tournament where all BM items are permitted. In this case, there will be few to no rules/guidelines to follow. Other mini-events will likely have the conventional GM melee ruleset that most people are familiar with.
* In the interest of time, each mini-event will be run in a single-elimination style format using the Challonge bracket system. We expect each mini-event to last an hour or two at most as we know most people have responsibilities and other time commitments. There will be no "loser's bracket" as too many people AFK in it. Events start promptly at stated time and you will only be waited on 10 minutes before being dropped from the event altogether. Keep these moving in a timely fashion, please. All duels will be the typical FT6 & win by two kills. The four main GM melee classes will always be allowed unless a particular week is designated to be a class-only event (i.e., Zealot only).
Hall of Fame
* With the introduction of these new mini-events comes the new GM melee Hall of Fame. This new Hall of Fame will showcase D2R's top GM melee players by the number of mini-event points they've won. First, second, and third place winners each week will receive 2, 1, and 1/2 points, respectively.
A trophy (pictured below) will be awarded to the first person to reach 5 points, another trophy will be awarded to the first person to reach 10 points, then 15 points, and so on. I will update this thread with the current Hall of Fame rankings after each mini-event concludes. First three ranks are: (1) Knight for 5 points, (2) Stone Guard for 10 points, and (3) Blood Guard for 15 points.
Sample of First Trophy to be Awarded To Whoever Earns 5 HoF Points First (there will be similar for 10 points & 15 points, then an entirely new trophy for beyond that)
History
If this format looks familiar, it is because it pulls directly from PalaPk's weekly tournaments that were run many years ago on LoD since 2004. In the spirit of how they did things, all mini-events (unless it is for a designated class-specific themed event) will always allow all GM melee classes to freely participate and will never require an entry fee. These events are open to anyone. Prizes depend on the sponsors and donations.
Prizes
We hope that there will be enough donations (large or small) to have some sort of prize for each event but it is hard to definitively say that this will occur every week. We accept fg donations or item donations.
Rules that apply to every mini-event, regardless of theme:
* No running
* Do not use Exile against non-Paladin opponents
* If you misclick, the duel continues
* Attack/swipe to indicate that you are ready
* HAVE FUN... these are completely no-risk low-stake events primarily for COMMUNITY-BUILDING, it doesn't always have to be about winning! Join up, come hang in Discord, and be part of the community.__________________________________________________________
GM Melee Mini-Event #1
"No Holds Barred BM Bash"
To Be Held on 1/16/23 at 7:00 PM EST to Kick Off the New Year
__________________________________________________________
Current Prize Pool : 10,000fg (Donated By Kiss)
Permitted Classes: Zealot, Fury Druid, Jab Amazon, Concentrate Barbarian, Wolf Barbarian, Werebear Druid
Rules
* You may borrow or lend out gear for this mini-event
* Basic rules remain: no angling/shifting, no targeting Oaks
* Because it gives an unfair advantage to only one class, you cannot use class-specific skills that would significantly benefit your class over another. For example, Paladins cannot max out weird Auras and become some sort of Auradin during a duel. Use Zeal & Fanaticism like normal. Druids cannot use Spirit of Barbs either. In other words, you may use BM items, but not BM skills!
* Can swap gear twice during a set, but you cannot Token during a set
* No pre-buffing, even with Cube in inventory. Don't use charges on an item
* Paladins still cannot use Exile against a non-Paladin opponent, but Draculs may be used in any duel
* Needs at least 8 players
Permitted
* All items, basically
* Knockback & Slow
* Poison damage on weapons & items
* Eth items without Zod or repair mod (i.e., eth Steelrends, eth non-repair items socketed with runes and jewels)
* Items with CTC Amp or Life Tap (Paladins cannot, however, use Exile against non-Paladin opponents)
* Items with any amount of elemental damage
* Anything else you can damn well think of_________________________________________________
Hall of Fame
none yet..._________________________________________________
Future Mini-Events (stay tuned...)
* Regular mini-events with normal rulesets that we are all familiar with
* Rare/crafted only
* Unique only
* Shapeshifting only (beardin, wolf / bear barbs, wolf / bear druids, bearzons, bearsin, etc.)
* Tag-teams (2v2s)
* Conc Barbs & Bear classes only
* Class-specific events or class-specific rules fun tweaks (i.e., wolf druids only but no BOTD allowed, only Conc Barbs allowed to use Grief, etc.)
* SetB / OCDMs
* ...and more
These special themed events will be sprinkled in among "normal" mini-events that have the conventional rules of a typical/normal tourney or ladder match. AKA they will not ALL be themed in this way.This post was edited by Koston on Jan 4 2023 06:06pm
