Hello guys I have 2x wine bottles. One is from 2001 and one from 1994. Bottled.

These were stored at room temperature. What do you think are they still good despite room temperature?

I’ve been told (by the fine folks at my last Napa Valley winery tour) that for longterm storage for red wine, you ideally would want to maintain a 50 +/-5 Fahrenheit temperature wine cellar.

The only way to know is to open your new bottle and test a sample. If you don’t have any instruments to measure the oxidation and acidic levels, you can still do some checks: Smell to uncover any distinct and prominent acidic scent. Visually inspect for any dark brown sliding down the walls of your glass as you swirl the wine sample. If still unsure, do a sip and spit test. Again, you’re looking for any vinegar-like acidic taste.

I drank both bottles with a friend. Unfortunately, the cork could not be removed and broke. So we pushed it in and poured it ourselves with a sifter of icing sugar. It was still edible/drinkable :)

this made me cringe!

glad it was still enjoyable.

I'm not a wine snob by any means, but if you find a serious one and tell them you pushed the cork in they'll faint.

With old bottles gotta use the right corkscrew. Old corks are quite fragile.

If they are sealed they are fine.
