I would rather be of the view that she thought she had a mandate, from her party, and when the powers that be rejected her plan, her party followed suit.

The truth is they embraced a decade of hardship for a notion of self determination. By hardship, i mean hardship on those people on low incomes. The ironic thing here is that it was those on low income that voted for Brexit in the first place. Keen observers will see that successive leaders of England, from both sides, said the same thing. This means that Labour is no better then the Conservatives. pretty sad really.
