D4 has no weapon physics, meaning that, when you toss a large sword towards an opponent, the sword makes no contact and leaves no cuts or marks on armor.
You would expect in 2022 for shields to bend, for armor to scratch, for skin to bleed, and all this as a physics resultant of the weapon's trajectory and material.
D4, just like D3, D2 and D1, is nothing but some graphics(although greatly improved) overlapping with damage exchange, but the encounter looks fake and the colors/surface area spells only make it worse.
To add to the fakeness of it, dead bodies dissapear, as though our 2022 i7 processors couldn't handle 5 or 6 dead bodies(mutilated). Arrows shot into a monster should not dissapear off the monster hit.
Armor pieces should be flying off of armored monsters and armor should break and fly off when hit by arrows or large weapons, all this according to physX mechanics.
Monsters should better tank the hits and stun less when their armor is intact when hit by small weapons, and be fully stunned/knocked back when hit by weapons heavier than their own armor.
Alot of the fakeness and lack of realism of the environment is justified by the fact that the character is a hero and that the game is just a game.
Alot of the deception surrounding D4 is not that it's not like D2 or D1, it's just that when you watch the gameplay you see nothing special that you haven't seen before. It's all VERY familiar to you. It's nothing new.
