Clone hunting used to be IP based. I used to pay 5fg for information on soj sales. Not so I could steal a walk, but so I could keep tabs on every IP. There were a few critics who didnt understand. See here on 1st page (from June 2020):

So, about a month after I created that thread, I made a discord server for legacy d2, where people gathered and shared info. We did 200 or 300 walks over the course of about 1.5 years. One season, we walked Europe realm 15 times only 9 days after reset. Then walked USeast 15 times the following week.
Then, me and my buddy co-founded a D2R server for the same reason. To host clone walks. To gather soj info. To share information. To teach people how to clone hunt. We have 18,500 members. We have hosted many public D2R walks. We have caught and shared many public walks from other groups/streamers as well. We have 2 more walks coming up in a few days.
