Thinking about doing a PC upgrade, i dont play that much anymore but I'm running some GTX970TI with some i5 or i7 or something, basically it's old by todays meassures but it runs everything at good quality still :P

Max budget is 5k eur, but ideally if i could get something decent enough for 2-3k that be great.

I run multi clients of D2:R (when ladder resets are) so need a bit of Ram, i on occasions play some new releases or i can go back and dabble in Stellaris (great if it can handle lategame large maps without stuttering) or elden ring, but i just want something up to date that i can play whatever i want on max graphics and have no issues IF i choose too, and probably somethign that could be expected to live 4-5years.

Doable?

I pulled some shit out of my ass and came up with this list (ALBEIT NOT NECESSARILY THESE BRANDS, IT WAS JUST WHAT I HAD TO PICK TO PLACE IN BASKET CUZ OTHER SHIT WAS SOLD OUT AT THE TIME).

Anyone got any better recommendations than this?

Edit: also how much difference is it between 3080 and 3080TI, enough to justify 700eur more price for a TI?

The ti runs a little bit faster, but with 12gb vram it should have no troubles
I'd get a cpu with 3.8ghz and 4000 mhz ram to help not need a new system for a good bit

You Could Reference this as well, and compare performance.
Lately as of April of 2021, I feel like Intel is the new " Best Bang for the buck "

* Note EVGA Power Supply * I'm not happy at all with the cables /connectors they provide, Power supply itself seems nice. Aftermarket EVGA Cables may be the way to go.
* Note Video Card * Recommending the FTW3 Edition , it has upgraded Thermal Pads, and air flow .

Thank you!

DDR5 memory so good compared to the DDR4 that it's worth going down a lot in ram? I was thinking 32gb was my absolute minimum, there are several games that i like to multibox in if i am playing them, and i really like to have the option to do so without the PC struggling.

Edit: Does the i7 perform that well?
25mb l3cache instead of 64, and 12 cores instead of 16, and 20 threads instead of 32 if i compared the ryzen who i've heard a whole bunch of rave about and thought about getting primarily

multiple cores are great if a program is written to use them, thing is most are written to use a single core especially games
the ghz will empty the cache faster 3.8 ghz vs 3.2 ghz dosnt sound like much but it is ALOT and intel is more durablitity and longevity vs raw performance and can be overclocked to 5ghz!
16 gb ram should be enough but wouldn't hurt to get 32 gb if you can afford it across 4 sticks

Yeah I took on a bunch of the feedback and the basket looks like this now:

Edit: it's over 2 sticks, instead of 4, does that make a major difference?

you may find 4 ram sticks cheaper then 2,but also understand if you want the option to add more :P
thats gonna be a beast of a computer for gaming!
only thing i would add is a extra hardrive to backup/games that dont need speed
1tb sadly is not that much with alot of games nowadays :P

Yeah the current gaming rig i would keep though, and have as storage + extra accounts or what not and it has two SSD's and also a HDD ^^
I will just have it without mouse/keyboard/screen and just remote connect and use it that way :P and the new pc would probably be just pure gaming, i am also one of those who uninstall games as soon im done with them, very select few games stay installed over long time periods ^^

Edit: Big thanks to all who contributed feedback <3 much love from a boomer who sucks at computer tech
Edit 2: Total pricetag for the most recent picture of basket lands at 3253 USD // 3058 EUR // 32195 SEK

The DDR4 vs DDR5 Ram is not a Huge Performance Difference at this time, but it is noticeable, and prices will lower over time as it just came out.
The Bonus: of getting everything new/compatible with DDR5, is that this 1700 Socket of intel will be the First Generation in its Series, which means 4 years from now, if needed you can upgrade the CPU or Ram seperate, without having to do a full MOBO/CPU/Ram Combo upgrade.
You also get the Generation of PCI-Express boost and storage speed boost, so thats where the big difference really helps.

-> D2R: Uses 2.5 to 3GB Ram DDR4
Uses 10% of GPU Usage on the RTX 3080 12GB EVGA FTW3 @2K High Settings.

- Really Depends on how much stuff you have running, I have an average amount of stuff, and im using 9GB of Ram before opening D2R.
(88% and higher Usage, is where you may start experiencing lag)

Also: Can always lower Graphics.
4 Ram Cards , is better than 2 Cards by like a 3-5% performance.
