If I'm planning on farming many torches in a season, is it a better overall strategy to sell the torches unid, or id them and hope for the high rolls to balance out the ocean of druid / barb / necro torches?

Have to do the math.

Each key vs 5 fg x9 = 45 fg. Let's set this as the base for value.

Random non perf Torch rolled = 25 fg (5/7 classes, lose money)

Unid = 90 fg, guaranteed profit of 45 with current prices, you just need to buy the keys and run the ubers.

Non Perf Pala/Sorc Torch - 200 fg (2/7 classes)

You could map out the averages of a perfect or high rolled torch on each class, but the likelihood of finding them should not be considered into profit since it's like 1% for any given class (perf) and like 10% for any 19/19 > (of which is likely to break even at the cost of a unid).

I would go for the unid roll sale, especially since it's profit each time. Obviously with prices dropping these numbers aren't gonna sit.

early ladder its probably going to be more profitable to sell unid unless you get extremely lucky

after a couple weeks there's no market for unid and its not worth the time/effort, i'd just ID them and cross my fingers (or stop farming torches)

I always sell unid until I pay off my investment for the uber character.

After that then:

If it is self found keys I usually identify and gamble.

If it is bought keys I usually sell unid for the 100% profit guarantee.

Also as mentioned, torches are usually only profitable for the first 2 weeks or so of ladder. After the profit margin falls off to "not worth the time" levels I'll just make a service thread to keep a fg making avenue open for that character
