Crypto, Chinese Yuan and/or a bit of everything else. I think a state legalized crypto currency is going to emerge. Freezing assets when you need them is a no go. What the article doesn't say, one of the largest $ holder is China. If they actively start to eject their dollars into the market the US has got a very big problem. Same could happen with Euro.

states would be better off to just adopt crypto into their system, but you're right they'll invariably try to create their own and destroy the foundations that crypto is built on failing all along the way.

It would require a fundamental shift in Chinese policy, as i understand it, for the Yuan to become prevalent. It does not look like China wants to do this. In terms of Crypto, its a new concept and (correct me now if wrong) it is too volatile currently for it to become a recognised currency of such magnitude that Russia and China would adopt. Ultimately yes a makey up currency similar to JSP fg may be the future but I don't see that in the next decade (in my opinion). For sure Russia and China need to (from their position) explore ditching the Euro and Dollar and look for an alternate acceptable to them.

Status Quo
I think we'll see a gradual shift from $.
EDIT: SA is accepting Yuan as payment for oil from China. WOW, didn't think the shift would happen this fast:

large scale adoption would put a fairly swift end to major volatility, not that i want that because i dont want world banks to hold a massive majority of BTC. its bad enough financial institutions are whales already.

yes i concede this point. I have not really thought about this topic I must admit. As with everything, everyone wants a piece of the pie and money gravitates to those that already have it.
