It does because he was only training with Qui Gon to retain his individual identity after his physical death & become a ‘Force Ghost’. He wasn’t training his saber skills or offensive force abilities, for example.



His plan was to teach Luke in the ways of the Force & to train him to be a Jedi. Not being able to defeat Vader =/= useless.

Except in the show he has cut himself off from the force and struggled to barely save a child, which isn't really conducive with constant force training to maintain his strength and ability to become a force ghost.

Not to mention how is he supposed to protect Luke if he completely forgoes training?
