So i googled ur motherboard not sure if it's 100% accurate but this is what i got atleast...
For gigabyte z97x-sli motherboard it supports up to 3000 MHZ DDR3 and maximum 32 gb ram

EDIT: You can use different speed and different brands of memory sticks (not recommended) since this can affect your system performance.
It's most optimal to use the same brand and same sticks for maximum performance.
The only requirement is that it is DDR3 not DDR4 or DDR2 has to be DDR3

no you can go faster or slower

as beastly said, you can always go slower than what your max is if you want lol. But your motherboard atleast supports up to 3000 MHZ so thats your maximum.

Don't go for 4x4GB, memory slot is limited, 2x8GB is more future proof. My browser is so bloated it uses 4GB memory alone (with 100+ tabs).

two new options i could only find some on ebay cant speak for the quality of sellers but hey its that or buy used. or change bran and spend a little more cash.
