You know what their first mission is? Is it ever going to recreate hubble deep field? Would love to see what else it can pick up.

It could with 100X better detail.

Hello. As far as I know its main mission is to take a look back in time. JWST gives an opportunity to discover the birth of galaxies and stars. It also will lokk for planets to live on. And I agree with Subwoofer, Hubble is just a kids telescope comparing to JWST.

By the way, JWST has already completed 95% of its way to L2. The first photos are being waited on ~June.

Here's a link for a good explanation of Lagrange points

Yes I know what it's for and why it's there.
I'm directly asking what their first objective is.
Is there a list that shows it's missions based on the time that's being allocated?
I know Hubbles time was very precious and planned out and getting any time in pushed other objectives further.

Further details remain unknown so far. Probably due to constant arguments over what's more important because like you said...people are wanting this pretty bad.

Nice. Thank you.
I remember when we got the first pictures of Pluto with the fly by.
I was so excited then. Can't wait to see the pictures from JW.

This is NASA's archive of APOD photos.

The first and the last photos. What a progress we've already made and are going to achive
