im not a vanilla hater or anything but like everyone i met on TBC said theyve been on vanilla pservers for the past 5-6... years

is it actually that enjoyable? i really dont see where the fun is in SoM or regular vanilla honestly

I don't think necessarily that SoM was the best it could be, but i think it has huge potential.

They could run seasons from different expansions, they can change settings like exp and what not, they can change/tweak class balances, they can fiddle with boss mechanics and such.
I do think wow seasons could be a thing and i hope they learn from this and put some effort into it. People love playing diablo 2 or diablo 3 ladders and what not, people do like starting over and doesn't mind a season ending as long as next season is something fresh.

Could next season also be classic? ofc, and maybe this time exp scales on dungeon mobs? maybe they do class balances or what not. Could it be TBC? yeah it could too, it really are endless alternative and if blizzard takes it to heart it could be a huge reason for many people to keep their wow subs running.

I played vanilla until AQ40 and classic until clearing Naxx many times. After that I vowed never to play classic again.

Unfortunately SoM seems to implement much of what I would have wanted, but I can't stand playing the classic borefest one more time

They've made some mistakes, likely due to how rushed the whole idea was from the start, this is clear. However, it's still the core vanilla game we know and love and the 1-60 fresh experience has been a blast. The trick I think it to play as a casual and even though this is season of MASTERY I feel ironically it does have a more casual vibe to it then classic did.

Hopefully Soul of Iron is just a stepping stone to eventually making hardcore servers.
