not really the issue here. The bigger thing is apparently this whole thing was a joke between the two. According to him. They staged it all to get reactions.
But to put it into perspective. A free service is still a service. a 1fg service and a 100000000 fg service and a free service are all the same. They may not be the same quality, as in the free one might take 100x as long. But they are all still a service and all the normal rules should apply. Now of course punishment is much easier to solve. The free service can back out or quit whenever he wants as he doesn't need to replay the fee paid for service. BUT at the same time, he is punishable for all infractions of rules during service that might need repayment.
In this case, stealing the item would be said breach of service. Sure he doesn't have to repay the service fee since its free, but he still scammed him out of an item which the "payee" was suppose to receive at the end of said service or said item that belong to payee.
Another example, you volunteer your services free as a deep sea treasure hunter and state you won't take any of the treasure. You all go out and you end up finding the treasure. That treasure isn't yours to keep. it belongs to them.
Same thing happened here. the dude volunteered his services, said he wouldn't take the anni, but ended up taking it anyways.
