Truly, this is awesome
I start by finding a nice stock reference photo of an intensely portrait.
Then i vector some basic shapes for the head
Then i vector all of the blacks/outline
Then I begin creating shapes under that layer using fun colors i like
Once the vector is done i skim my facebook statuses for old poems i wrote and fit one onto the image while choosing fonts etc
Then i add a few more details and shapes to the background that incorporate everything
