Hi forum,

I’m looking to get back into playing D1, D2 LoD, and D2R (once released) in my spare down time (Woohoo!)

I haven’t had a computer for a long time, since I stopped gaming years ago. I currently have an iPhone and iPad and they are sufficient enough for business/personal use.

I am cheap and low on supplemental income at the moment (Woohoo!). I definitely don’t want to spend a bunch of cash on a new laptop just for occasional gaming (maybe 1 hour a day max, 7 hours a week total I would guess).. My brother, being the real champ he is, gave me his old laptop to help me out.

I’m wondering how viable this laptop will be for playing D1, D2 LoD, D2R. Please keep in mind I am so far from tech savvy and so far from being a computer guy. I literally know nothing. Based on google searches, this is the information I found on my laptop:

Model: HP ProBook 4520s
Potentially made in 2010
Intel Core i5 430M Processor (2.26GHz, 3MB cache)
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (32-bit) - I believe my brother installed Windows 10
15.6-inch LED-backlit anti-glare HD display (1366 x 768)
Intel GMA HD Integrated Graphics
4GB DDR2 800MHz RAM
320GB 7200RPM HDD
LightScribe DVD+/-RW Optical Drive
Atheros AR9285 BGN Wifi, Bluetooth 2.1, 1Gb LAN
6-Cell 47WHr Battery
Local Disk (C:) shows 381 GB free of 448 GB

All I will really use it for is the gaming. My iPhone and iPad will be for everything else business/personal. I guess the only important things about this laptop in regards to what I really want is good game speed and good graphics.

Please assist this cheap, tech illiterate person (me)

Thanks in advance!!

/edit

Also, is there anything I can do (free or relatively inexpensively) to assist in making this laptop more suitable as far as game speed and game graphics goes?

You can get away with playing d1 and d2 on that laptop but d2r you unfortunately won't be able to play.

You don't have a GPU (only using integrated graphics)

Is there something I can buy (short of a new laptop) that would allow me to play D2R on this PC? Or am I doomed?

You could try to load it up and see what happens but you'll probably get like 2fps

Other then that you're probably out of luck with that machine. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(

:(

I’m looking at a local sale listing for a “gaming computer” online. Here are the specs he’s posted:

“ MSI PE60-6QE | Gently used gaming laptop “

Specs:

intel i7 6700hq

Gtx 960m

DDR4 12gb Ram

1TB HDD

How would this one fare?

That passes the minimum spec recommendations but fails to meet the recommended spec recommendations so you will have a bit more of a choppier experience overall but still playable.

I suggest if you're looking to pick something up to get a desktop if possible... you'll get more bang for your buck in terms of performance and laptops are much more prone to problems like overheating.

And what about this one? It’s more expensive but seems way more viable? I have no idea.

Asus Gaming Laptop (TUF Gaming series). Asus TUF FX504GE-AH53

The condition of the laptop is 9.5/10. That would classify it as mint condition!

You're slightly under the recommended specs for the GPU with that machine but would need a 8GB ram upgrade to meet recommended specs. Better then the last laptop for sure though.
