don't be worried. think of D2 as your old pc. you laughed you cried, there were good times and there were bad times. you spent money but the memories were great. it died and now you have to buy a new one.
its honestly not fair on all the new players if a small % of the players already have godly gear in nonladder.

if its REALLY our old d2 , just with this wow grafik, and maybe better support , no (or atleast low amount) bots, then this game will be unstoppable! cant wait! i want it now ^^

yep d2 lod is going to die, but reborn as d2r. It's basically the same game but better.

I think the only people staying in d2 lod may be the hardcore elitist that have their perfected characters on accounts that took years to develop. But maybe not because if activision decides to kill the servers, then all those gears are worthless. So maybe they did sell their stuff before the release of d2r. If I was in their position, I probably sell my shit too. D2 LOD had a great run.
