That'll get you a mid-grade GPU right now

people are selling prebuilt computers with no gpu for around 400$ with decent specs but you will have to look around

then you can overpay for a gtx 1070/1060/1650/1660 400$ or if ur lucky getting a 1080 or 1070ti for around 400$ i see em all the time on yabe (spell backwards) those cards can handle max settings at 1080p or 1440p

This honestly makes no sense to me I won't lie. How much will it cost me to build a pc thats capable of running atleast most newer games? I'm obviously not looking for top of the line hardware with my budget.

What we are point out is that there is a shortage of GPU (video cards). Some folks, including myself, have a PC built with no GPU (no video). Luckily, I have an older GPU that I'm am using for the time being, to wait out this GPU shortage.

This current generation of GPU (for example, RTX 3000 series) has very high demand. Demand is so high that folks are now buying last generation (for example, RTX 2000 series). Even then, the demand is still so damn high that it's affecting two generations prior (GTX 1600 series). This is how bad the shortage is.

If you understand so far, you can image the prices of these GPUs, stretching past two generations ago. That's how expensive GPUs are.

Now all this being said and understood, do you still want to go through the pain and build your own PC right now? Or would you want to buy a pre-built (for example, Alienware, Origin, iBuyPower, CyberPower PC, etc.)?

And I guess to answer your price question, with that budget of $800-1000 Canadian and building your own, you'll end up with a GPU from two generations ago. Unless you exercise patience and with some luck, you manage to get your hands on a RTX 3060.

The gpu shortage is caused from alot of crypto miners is it not? I am understanding what you're saying but as far as prebuilts go which would be the best for my budget? I'm willing to up my budget to 1500.

Crypto miners are an extremely small part of the issue. COVID is the true culprit
