I've done 2 rx8s over the past 2 years, less than 15k between both. I can pick up beautiful ones around here all day long for under 3k that just need the motors gone through. I've got a friend who does the work for $300 plus parts. They are stupid fun, but longevity seems to be the issue.

Best thing for the apex seals it to mix oil (2-stroke) with the gas.

If you can get one thats not rusted out, i say a 1990-1993 240sx, give the KA24DE some TLC put some aftermarket pistons/rods and bearings. Arp headstuds 740cc injectors and a Gt3076r equivalent turbo for cheap (cant remember the name of the good cheap turbos).
Hot cam it as well (2x exhaust cams from a certain year 240sx gives great results and sounds awesome, google search will give details on which year cam to get)


300zx maf sensor, good fmic setup witjlh
Vh45 throttle body + custom intake/exhaust manifolds
A Jimwolf tune or take the car to local tuner to chip it, should be able to boost 30psi for a long time and have lots of fun.

Going to need after market fuel pump too (im sure you know all these todo's)
Put some 300zx brakes on, coilovers and good wheel and tire setup ( get hub conversion kit 4x to 5x)

Its going to be one helluva sweet ride. Great bang for buck.
