Does work with random name, available on the servers for several days at least.
Does not work anymore with a name you deleted before renaming, server will consider it exists on realm.

Tried deleting one for more than 30min, server still considered it as existing character.
After pm'd blizz for few weeks already i guess the only chance this gets fixed is waiting for a server maintenance or next ladder.

and don't risk your names also, kepts a deleted name for more than 1 hour, still doesn't work
i'll try to make some tests to see how long is needed for the servers to consider a deleted name available for renaming.
