Hey guys I hope this fits here, I figured it would be better than the hardware section as this wouldnt be as hardcore gamer based but here we go.

I am looking to have a windows based pc and a mac based setup (mbp + monitor). I currently have a 13" late 2016 MBP with 16gb ram and a windows gaming laptop. Gonna sell the laptop and the mbp, build a pc and buy a newer mbp. I have a monitor and pc build in mind....

I need help with deciding on which mbp is going to be enough for me.

Do I get a 15" 2018 with 16gb ram and a dedicated graphics card for around 1500?
Or
Do I get a 2020 13" with 16gb for around 1500?

I'm torn between what I need and what sounds good. The current mbp gets it done but my creativity and production are hendered especially towards the end of longer (30-45 minute multi clip projects).

I use FCP and Adobe PS. I shoot mainly in 1080 but some portions I shoot in 4k, but I always edit in 1080. I shoot raw with sony a7iii 's so the files aren't huge here either.

What would you do?

I wouldn't waste money on macs.
They are overpriced.
I had a macbook and returned it after 3 days.

I would just invest everything into a desktop and actually get a good setup. Leave your editing for the editing room. No need to be mobile.

My monitor cost the price of your macbook youre looking at so, again I would HIGHLY suggest just putting it all into a PC.
Laptops are inferior, especially macbooks

I shoot the a7iiii as well and I can tell you that if you upgraded to a decked out PC and used davinci resolve, your workflow and time editing will be cut down drastically.

Ended up finding a hell of a deal. 2019 15" with 32gb, 560x 1tbssd for 1400 sealed new in box. Couldn't pass it up. But FCP runs really smooth, and efficiently on a mac.... not like adobe or divincci. I def agree bang for buck is in the windows builds
