about the doom part: no, no and nooooo
cold mastery provides you with more than enough -cold res to get all the monsters to -100 cold res (wont go lower) and -res do not break immunities plus you loose 1 skill, xx% cold damage, 20fcr and res from df. please never use doom (in pvm).
also if you meant doom as merc weapon: no, no, no and noooooooooooooooooooooooo
the -res on merc gear applies to merc's damage only, it has no effect on your own char. that is why the -light res on infinity is completely useless and does not matter when rolling the runeword
