its gonna cost that much for the new gen version of say a 3700x?

we dont know amd might up their prices alittle if they take a huge lead all around on 4000series

3900x is 400 at microcenter right now
which is nicely priced

is your system not doing what you want now?

yea i was playing black desert at the time, and for that game its supposed to be ran minimized while doing afk activities, but that would lag me really bad when i tried to play for honor at the same time.
also vr has pretty low frames which makes me feel sick after a bit
and recording gameplay with obs drops frames as well

ps. i also wanted to run RDR2 in high settings but i could barely run it in low settings

Then you upgrade if you can

Thars pretty much the reason you do
All others are really just excuses for you to waste money lol

It feels kind of shitty to get an upgrade only for a new version to come out a month later and make you feel obsolete lol

then wait i would 4000series looks very promising

you have answered your own questions you need upgrade because its lacking but dont want to because dont want to be obsolete(which will always be the case) but being so close
just wait it out for reviews then decide

if i can i might jump on the amd cpu wagon
i do have an all amd build in my house atm and its pretty damn good near my 8700k 1080ti performance like almost identical but was slightly over half the price of my build but 2yrs later though too

I5 4990 and a gtx 970

Maybe update gpu but I wouldn't personally bother changing cpu...
look at costs for ram/mobo/cpu and remember your goign to get at best a 50% increase...
Might as well just OC your cpu and wait.

GPU wise its your call the 2080s is double your current card, question is does your games struggle to play?

looks to be multitasking also so newer 4000series will most likely help

I can’t play red dead redemption 2 at all
I can play for honor in low settings at 60 FPS, but the frames drop if I even do something as simple as run YouTube in chrome for some background music

I know my cpu is at fault a lot because I often get pop ups in the bottom right saying “For Honor has high cpu usage” and if I look in my task manager it’ll be at like 70-80% sometimes even 90-100
But yeah I know my gpu is shit too

According to both games specs you should technically be able to manage both.
If your gpu isn't up to snuff its going to dump a lot of extra load on the cpu.
Which I'm going to say is probably your main issue since you lack any serious amount of Vram.

YouTube on the side shouldn't be a factor at all.Streaming content however will cripple your cpu regardless.
So if streaming is the priority upgrade cpu, just don't expect games to play a lot better from just a cpu upgrade.
