No wait, my suggestion is impossible

Ok so

Server 1 (nl) has a sorc named Billy
Server 2 (ladder) starts up and a guy makes a zon named Billy
Server 2 resets, rolling chars over onto server 1
Player 1 and 2 are now both named Billy on the same server.

Who gets to keep his name?

Blizzard already has a system to allow multiple players to use the same name, by adding numbers to everything (Billy#2840 for example) but I think in general d2 players would find that more distasteful than competing against namebots
