I bought a used Msi Optix Mag 24c and the only issue with it is the right side of the screen is dim. I've identified that the backlight just doesn't turn on on that part so it isn't lighting up the screen.

If I mess with the brightness/tap on the monitor it will occasionally power back on and either flicker off and on or stay on completely until the screen goes off again.

my question is does anyone know if that sounds like I need to replace the backlight or could it possibly be just a bad capacitor?

Sounds like you just have a loose connection in there.

I took the monitor apart and tried to push all of the cables in to see if that was the cause. didn't make a difference. :c I am wondering if its possible its just the power cable? might need to buy a different one and see if it does anything differently.

Yeah. Could very well be a broken cable. Even one wire In the cable, could be the one that's doing it.

Unfortunately, it's kinda hard to troubleshoot that problem. I doubt it's the power cable. Those are usually heavier gauge wire.

/e ...and if the power cable breaks you won't have just one half of the screen with an issue.

/ee I would start checking the cables that hook to the backlight assembly. If you have one, use a multimeter to check each wire in the cables.

Warrantee Item... poorly tuned resistors. Send it back and ask for a more uniform one.

I was aware of the issue when I purchased it. It is very minor but if it is something I can fix cheap I still come out ahead.
