W There are more planets in our milky way alone than all the grains of sand on all the beaches on Earth, you think we are the only ones? Beliefs like this to me are the same as when we thought we were the center of the universe and the sun went around us. We like to feel special
number of planets doesnt mean much, because we are overestimating the chance of intelligent life evolving. i googled and seems the total number of planets is something around 10^24, meaning 1 with 24 zeros. and while that really is a huge number, if the chance for intelligent life was for example 10^-50, that number doesnt mean shit anymore. the problem is that we have absolutely no clue as to what that number is. so since we dont have the slightest idea of the chance of intelligent life forming, we should base our conclusions simply on the evidence we do have.
and that evidence is this: do we see ANY sign of intelligent life outside of earth? no. and science never claims that anything is known for sure, everything is a theory. so i admit i can be wrong, but you need some amount of evidence to prove me wrong. and until that evidence exists, im sticking to my theory that the chance of intelligent life forming is so low, that we are probably not the first ones, but the only ones
and yes i know that when we see a planet, we dont actually see that planet as it looks now, but as it looked when the light from it started traveling towards us. which would mean that we can look at an empty planet thats 100 million l.y. away, and that planet could now actually have life thats way more intelligent than our own. still until i see proof of aliens, im sticking to my hypothesis
edit: i dont think this to feel special, i think this because i see zero evidence of the contrary
