in all reality tipping is a great way to take even more advantage of the consumer and save owners money out of our pockets. iv worked in food industry for 19 years and managed a restaurant for the last 4 years. In canada min wage for servers is 12.20 an hour and they make tips.in a busy establishment even if your a mediocre server you can still walk away making 800-1000$ a week.now that in mind min wage for kitchen staff is 14$ an hr so you can see how sickening the difference in pay is and i for one think tipping standards should be re evaluated. sure some people will make the arguement that servers also tip out to kitchen staff. its not like that everwhere and they are still making 2x as much as a kitchen employee. even if a server has 5 tables an hr and makes 10$ combined in tips thats still 24$ an hr but in reality its more like 30-40$. the owners can charge 1-2$ more per item and pay servers min wage and for those who do tip will still be saving tons of money and the playing field will be even for the staff in work place.

Also, if you're tipping, it should be before taxes. However many places in Canada include it in with taxes and the machine sometimes defaults to 15% and you'd have to manually press few buttons to change it.

I tip because I don’t want them to fuck with my food when I eat again at the same restaurant. I saw the movie, Waiting, and it opened my eyes.

It works the same for delivery. If I tip too low or none at all, they fuck with the food. Well that happens where I live.

Walked into a restaurant today.

Sat down at the bar and ordered a meal to-go.

Talked with the waitress while I sipped my Dr. Pepper and waited to take my food home.

Still tipped 15%.

I guarantee that not leaving a tip on delivery doesn't result in them fucking with your food. Probably 80% of tips are written in at the door.

Only way you will get fucked with is if you order enough that they know you by address and never ever tip.
