I would agree there are wisdoms and teachings in that ancient book, by that I mean the old testament, that should never be taken lightly. I would rather you don't ridicule my Catholic past, as it was through no choice of my own to he baptized into that particular organization as an infant.
My choice to become a Freemason many years later however was made of my own free will and requires me to acknowledge pieces of the bible as historical truth, which I have no problem with, as I do believe the old testament is exactly that.....a historical account of true events and scientific information wrapped up in fables and parables, a very effective way of teaching the masses.
In fact, if anything, I am more inclined to lean towards the possibility of being a Jew in my heart. Strange I know, but true nonetheless.
I don't disbelieve that Jesus was a real person, but I have yet to have it proven to me that the things written about him many years after his death were not done so for the sole purpose of greed. In other words, the fellas he hinges around with found a way to make some serious money off him and to this day still do.
The conversation earlier about sex trafficking etc can be found far outside the reaches of pedophiliac priests...if you recall characters such as Jimmy Swaggart and Jim and Tammy Fae Baker.
Just a couple of examples of your religion taking advantage of peoples fears of death.
Fair enough.
The prosperity gospel was a problem back then, especially with the Church of Corinth and it is still a problem today.
