Yeah, there's no farmers markets around here, unfortunately. I imagine California has it nice though, in terms of produce availability.

I was sort of interested in growing my own during the winter, but it seemed like a lot of work, and I go through way too many tomatoes.

depends on how much space you have to work with and how many of what veriety you plant.

a lot of the time consuming things/work is the initial set up. raised beds/or in ground watering system if you dont want to go out and do it yourself every day.

Not enough space and time to justify the effort, I'm afraid.

Canned tomatoes are fine when they can be used. Cherry tomatoes hit most of the other bases adequately enough.

I was mainly just curious if the home-grown winter tomatoes have any flavor, or do they suffer from the same problems as the store-bought tomatoes.
